Blizzard came to Echoes of Nature in April of 2011 from Second Chance Wildlife Center. He had been hit by a car during a snowstorm and suffered neurological damage that left him blind in his left eye. Consequently, Blizzard could not be released back into the wild with only half of his typical field of vision as red-tailed hawks rely on their incredible sense of sight. In the wild, a red-tailed hawk’s lifespan is about 7 years. However, as of 2020 Blizzard is 21 years old! As an Ambassador, Blizzard loves to spend his days enjoying mice for breakfast and going on walks and programs with the instructors.
