AND
Are Pleased To Bring You New Summer Camps For 2010!

Below is an outline of our Summer Camps.  The Anne Arundel Recreation And Parks website will soon have further details and registration.

This year we are trying something different. We are offering Summer Camp options for the young nature enthusiasts (and those who have not yet realized their enthusiasm for nature).  Since this is our first year for offering Summer Camps we are starting small, literally.  We have two age categories; ages 2 to 3 and ages 4 to 5. We will alternate between two Anne Arundel Parks; Downs and Quiet Waters. Space will be limited.

Summer Camp Central Theme

The overall objective of these Nature Camps is to share and create a bond with nature and science. Each program is designed to introduce participants to a main topic whose purpose is to allow them to grow in their knowledge and experience. This is achieved through live animal ambassadors, arts & crafts, games and activities that are designed with their age level in mind. Sharing through nature helps participants learn about their world; therefore, creating and fostering a desire to have an active part in the outdoors that will hopefully last a life time. Live animal ambassadors will allow participants to see animals in a safe and respectful manner. Crafts will be made to reinforce the day’s topic. These nature camps will be a stepping stone for the participants for science concepts, vocabulary, socialization, exploration and discovery through games and activities. Programs are presented in a fun, relaxed manner that is still educational.

Camp Session Descriptions

Creature Colors- Ages 2-3

This camp session will focus upon the different colors and patterns of animals.  Participants will either have colors introduced or reinforced through mixed media: pictures and toy models. Key science concepts will be introduced through games and activities, such as matching and patterns. Live animal ambassadors will help make the colors and patterns come alive. Crafts will be made to reinforce the day.

Using Your Senses - Ages 2-3

This camp session will focus upon the five senses in us and within animals, either as a sensory tool or how that animal uses that sense in its world. Each sense will be focused upon in an exploratory manner for participants. Key science concepts will be introduced through games and activities, such as matching, not only visually but also through auditory and smell. Live animal ambassadors will help complement the topic. Crafts will be made to reinforce the day’s topic.

Animals Across Maryland - Ages 4-5

This camp session will focus on the animals and plants in Maryland belonging to different habitats. Participants will explore what a habitat is, what is so special about a habitat and why certain animals live in certain places. Learn the animals’ basic needs and compare that with the basic needs of people. They will get to explore the world around them and see it in a different way. Participants will be introduced to potentially new vocabulary and science concepts through activities and games. Live animal ambassadors will allow participants to see some of Maryland’s animals in a safe and respectful manner. Crafts will be made to reinforce the day’s topic.

Bug Mania - Ages 4-5

This camp session will focus on the bug world. Participants will learn or have the concepts reinforced about insects, arachnids and other types of invertebrates through games and activities. Participants will have opportunities to explore the world around them for bug homes. Live animal ambassadors will allow participants to see representatives from the bug world in a safe and respectful manner. Crafts will be made to reinforce the day’s topic.

Summer Program Lineup!

Beat the Heat

How do you "beat the heat" of summer? Animals also have ways to beat the summer heat. Meet some live animals and discover how these animal ambassadors and others keep cool.

Splish, splash, I was taking a bath....

Diving, splashing, water or sand... animals have different methods of getting clean. Meet some of our animal ambassadors and learn about the dirt not on them.
